Evaluate Suitability of Coverage

Our short film, a psychological thriller. Was intended to show the effects of extended periods of isolation on the human psyche, what it may make people feel, do, or act and how it degrades the mental state of humans over time, as we are quite social beings, we can't really survive on our own as we are both reliant on others to cover our weaknesses and for other reasons. This particular area in which we decided to film was mostly empty at the times we filmed and furthermore looked quite old, and run down somewhat, which helped get across the overall degradation in a more subtle and less direct way. We deemed this empty and 'broken' environment fitting for the setting of the scene and the context behind it. Though bearing in mind the fact that it is a park, helps show the difference and change, as normally parks are quite populated areas, its where people go to hang out with friends, meet up, and relax, having fun socially with others.

We also decided to film the majority of our scenes within the school, as schools are almost always densely populated places, seeing one completely empty except for the main character helps to shed some light on the situation, showing how alone the character is, for hundreds of his peers to have just vanished suddenly. Furthermore the fact that this area which normally is quite densely populated, is now empty, helps our audience empathise with the character on a deeper level, letting them understand how alone he must feel and how depressing that is. This is the reason we deemed this place suitable, as its befitting of a psychological thriller in the fact that it provides the audience a mixture of feelings and new understandings about the character's situation.

Another place that we filmed in was a Drama Studio. In this location, we used this for the last scene, where the character is in a house. We were able to adjust the lighting so that it would be mostly on the character and his 'friends'. We had a couch and two chairs, which were where the characters were sitting. Denoted in this image is the character sitting down on the couch, with him talking to his 'friends', who weren't actually there. This would connote how people would normally have a normal conversation in some sort of room with a couch, which is what people would sit on to be comfortable. This was suitable as we could display the main character's mind spiraling so much to the point in which he senses that there are other people with him.
